Tøfting was a defensive midfielder, known for his tough tackling, strength and work rate, so much so that he was nicknamed ‘the Lawn Mower’ for his ability to cover every blade of grass. He started his career at AGF Aarhus, before notable spells with Hamburger, MSV Duisburg and Bolton Wanderers. He won three Danish Cups in his career and played at two FIFA World Cups and two UEFA European Championships. Between 1998 and 2002 he was part of Denmark’s fierce midfielder duo with Thomas Gravesen.
