Simon Rolfes

Germany 2017

Simon Rolfes is most remembered for his time with Bayer Leverkusen where he spent ten years, playing a key role in front of the defence. Having come through the Werder Bremen youth system, he made only one appearance for the first team. A move to Alemannia Aachen followed, in which he played a pivotal role in their surprising UEFA Cup run. Once at Leverkusen, he quickly became a fan favourite and was soon made club captain. A member of the German EURO 2008  that reached the final, he was unfortunate that a poorly-timed injury kept him out of the German 2010 World Cup squad.
