Participating Teams and Players

How many teams will participate?

12 national teams will participate in the tournament, representing many of the biggest football nations on the planet to create a truly global competitive international tournament.

How many players will be in each squad?

Each Star Sixes squad will comprise ten players, six will be permitted to play at any one time with the other four being substitutes.

When will the teams be confirmed and announced?

The 12 countries have been confirmed – Brazil, China, Denmark, England, France, Germany, Italy, Mexico, Nigeria, Portugal, Scotland and Spain.

Who will manage the teams?

Each Star Sixes team will have an appointed captain who will play and also manage the side.

How are players chosen?

The selection process is managed by the team captains and Star Sixes.

When will players be announced?

A galaxy of stars has already been announced, including: Roberto Carlos (Brazil), Steven Gerrard, Michael Owen, David James, Emile Heskey (England), Carles Puyol, Gaizka Mendieta (Spain), Michael Ballack (Germany), Deco (Portugal), Robert Pires (France), Jay-Jay Okocha (Nigeria) and Dominic Matteo (Scotland). Keep an eye on the Star Sixes website and social media for further player announcements in the coming weeks.

What kit will the players wear?

Players will wear national team colours, designed specifically for the Star Sixes tournament. Keep an eye on the Star Sixes website and social media to find out when the team kits will be revealed.

 

Competition Format, Schedule and Rules

What is the competition format? How do teams progress to the final?

There will be three groups of four teams. In the group stage, each team will play each other once. The top two from each group, plus the two best third-placed teams, will progress to the quarter-finals, semi-final and final.

How many matches will each team play?

All teams will play a minimum of three games while those that reach the final stages could play up to six games in total.

What is the full schedule?

The tournament will be played over four consecutive days across five sessions:

  • Thursday 13 July: six group games (each team playing one match)
  • Friday 14 July: six group games (each team playing one match)
  • Saturday 15 July: six group games (each team playing one match)
  • Saturday 15 July: four quarter-finals
  • Sunday 16 July: two semi-finals; third-place decider; final

What time will doors at The O2 open each day?

  • Thursday 13 July: 18:00
  • Friday 14 July: 18:00
  • Saturday 15 July 11:30 (session 1)
  • Saturday 15 July: 18:00 (session 2)
  • Sunday 16 July: 17:30

When will the fixtures be released?

A draw will take place to determine which teams will play in each of the three groups. The draw date will be announced on the Star Sixes website and social media in due course.

How long is each match?

In the group stage, games will last 20 minutes while the quarter- and semi-finals and final will consist of two halves of 15 minutes, separated by a short half-time break.

Will there be extra-time and/or penalty shootouts?

There will be no extra time or penalty shootouts in the group stages. However, should a knockout match end in a draw, the match will be decided by a penalty shootout.

What are the rules of the game?

The rules of Star Sixes are designed to adhere as close to 11-a-side football as possible, for the enjoyment of both players and spectators alike:

  • Six-a-side football
  • Squads of ten players with rolling substitutions
  • No restrictions on player movement
  • No head-height rule
  • No perimeter wall / barriers
  • Kick-ins will replace throw-ins
  • Drawn knockout games will go straight to penalties

 

Venue

Will there be any pre- or post-match entertainment?

Star Sixes intends to be more than just a football tournament, with a spectacular show built around the matches. Keep an eye on the Star Sixes website and social media for further information including special guest and artist announcements.

Will alcohol be served in the venue?

Alcohol will be available to purchase at The O2.

 

Tickets & VIP Packages

How do I buy tickets?

Tickets will go on public sale at 09:00 on Friday 27 January 2017 and will be available to purchase online at www.theo2.co.uk/starsixes.

How much are tickets?

Ticket prices will range from £30-£65 for adults and £10-£45 for juniors (under-16).

Do I have to buy a ticket for the full four days or can I buy for individual matches?

Fans will be able to purchase tickets for individual sessions. There are five sessions in total. Full details will be provided when tickets go on sale.

Can I buy VIP tickets and what does this include?

There will be various VIP packages to choose from. Full details will be provided by Star Sixes and The O2 when tickets go on sale.
